Dean Ormston is CEO of APRA AMCOS, Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand’s music rights management organisation representing 128,000 songwriter, composer and music publisher members.
Under his leadership, APRA AMCOS has led industry and government co-investment strategies, working to develop highly regarded capacity building programs including the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office (NATSIMO); SongMakers songwriting program in schools; SongHubs collaborative songwriting intensives; and internationally renowned music export program, Sounds Australia.
Dean is a driving voice on the importance of local content, the opportunity and threat of AI to creative industries, and the call for a national catalyst to revitalise the live music sector in the form of tax-offsets for live music venues.
He is also Chair of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), only the second Australian ever elected in the organisation’s 99-year history.
