DENIM If you still only know Denim as Mallrat’s DJ, you’re out of the loop - time to catch up (kinda embarrassing for you, tbh). Real name, real swag - Denim’s been carving out her own lane, blending the raw, tropical charm of Far North Queensland with the culture-dripped coolness of Naarm’s club scene. After cutting her teeth on the road with Mallrat - including sets at Splendour in the Grass and a support slot for actual Kylie Minogue - Denim is stepping into her solo era. She’s already left her mark at Beyond The Valley and shut it down supporting Artemas on his sold-out Australian tour. Her sound? Equal parts sugar-rush and steel cap. Think SOPHIE-style sparkle meets Nike TN stompers in a dark warehouse. One moment she’s deep in hyperfeminine e-girl dreamscapes (“In My Head”), the next she’s delivering eshay-core techno chaos (“Nike Store”). Her sets are loose, instinctive, and a little unhinged - in the best way. There’s humour in her world, but nothing ironic. She’s not chasing cool - she is cool. And you know it. This is Denim’s world now. You’re just living in it. xx |

Spike Fuck Spike F*ck is a singular voice in contemporary music—raw, literary, mythic. First emerging in the latter half of the 2010s with The Smackwave EP, a cult release that fused heroin balladry, confessional lyrics, and synth-laced, narcotic post-punk, Spike became a symbol of emotional extremity in Melbourne’s underground. Then came silence. After a three-year retreat from public life, Spike returned in 2024 with a slew of new material, a full band, and a renewed vision and accompanying intensity. No longer a solo act, Spike F*ck is now a tight-knit band, channeling the grandeur of ‘70s rock and roll excess who perform with a spiritual intensity. The new work trades chaos for clarity, addiction for transformation—but keeps the same pathos. It’s music about recovery, community, life and death—delivered with the same unforgettable voice, once purified by time and isolation then redeemed by connection. |

The Southern River Band Trying to do a rock’n’roll band in Perth in the 21st century is not exactly the coolest thing in the world. Some people have told us you should change this or do that, but we’re just going to keep doing our own thing.” It’s an attitude that’s been winning the Southern River Band fans across the globe, from those who flocked to the group’s recent run of UK and European dates to The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins, who proclaimed the four-piece “a proper fucking rock band” after hearing their 2023 single, “Stan Qualen”. Then there was the time Powderfinger vocalist Bernard Fanning slipped into their DMs to tell them he loved what they were doing, and that if they ever needed a place to record he had a studio in Byron Bay with Grammy-winning producer Nick DiDia (Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen). The Southern River Band took him up on the offer, spending 10 days in March recording Easier Said Than Done with DiDia at the helm. The 12-track album includes a song written by Bernard Fanning for the band, ‘No Such Time’. Easier Said Than Done is out Oct 17 through Civilians and is the bands finest work to date. Beneath the lyrical humour, Kramer’s Herculean mullet, and the sweat-fuelled good-time antics of the band’s unreal live show is a group of four individuals – Cal Kramer is joined in SRB by bassist Pat Smith, guitarist Dan Carroll and drummer Tyler Michie– who take what they do very seriously. You’ve just gotta see for yourself. |
