Australasia’s largest annual music prize, the Levi’s® Music Prize, is changing to support more Australian and New Zealand artists through the COVID-19 crisis.

The redesigned Levi’s® Music Relief Fund is assisting 10 artists, distributing between them $45,000 in cash. Each individual will also receive an online mental health support package from The Indigo Project and a customised digital upskilling course from ‘Blocks’ by Bolster.

The first Levi’s® Music Relief Fund round winners are: The Beths, Tkay Maidza, Miiesha, Haiku Hands and Jaguar Jonze.

All Australian and New Zealand residents who have showcased at BIGSOUND during its 18 year history are eligible to apply to the Levi’s® Music Relief Fund.

Applications for the next round are open now and close at 11:59pm (AEST), Sunday 5 July 2020.

Q: Who should apply?

A: Any artists who have previously showcased at BIGSOUND and have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic should apply to the Levi’s® Music Relief Fund.

・Artists must be at least 18 years of age.
・Artists must legally reside in Australia or New Zealand; provided, that in the case of a band with multiple Artists, no less than 2/3 of the Artists in the band are legal Australian or New Zealand residents. For example, if there are five members of a band, no fewer than four members of the band must be legal residents of Australia or New Zealand.
・Artists must be able to participate in the Levi’s® Music Relief Fund without violating any third-party rights or obligations, including without limitation the policies or procedures of any record company with which the Artist has an agreement.
・For all exclusions see the terms and conditions.

Q: What constitutes an Australian band or artist?

A: For bands; band members must satisfy the following Australian or New Zealand residency requirements: for two person bands, both musicians must be an Australian or New Zealand resident – or one member having resided in Australia or New Zealand for at least 12 months; for bands of three or more, 2/3 of the band must be Australian or New Zealand residents. This will be judged on a case by case basis.

For individual artists; they must be a resident of Australia or New Zealand.

Q: What are the deadlines for application?

A: Applications are currently open for the final round of the Levi’s® Music Relief Fund (previously the Levi’s® Music Prize). Applications for the final round close 11:59pm (AEST), Sunday 5 July 2020.

Decisions will be announced approximately 4-6 weeks after the closing date.

Q: Is there an application fee to apply?

A: There is no fee to apply to the Levi’s® Music Relief Fund.

Q: Do I need to apply to the Levi’s® Music Relief Fund if I already applied for the Levi’s® Music Prize?

A: Yes, as the Levi’s® Music Relief Fund has been entirely restructured you will need to submit a new application.

Those who applied to Round 3 of the Levi’s® Music Prize were judged based on their original application for the first round of Levi’s® Music Relief Fund. Those who have applied for the Levi’s® Music Prize will not automatically be included in the final round of the Levi’s® Music Relief Fund, you will need to resubmit. However, anyone who has won or entered the Levi’s® Music Prize in the past is still eligible to apply for the final round of the Levi’s® Music Relief Fund.

Q: Can I apply for the Levi’s® Music Relief Fund more than once?

A: Any re-submitted applications will automatically overwrite previous applications, with your last submitted application being the version judged.

Q: How do I apply?

A: You can apply via the Application Page here; but make sure to read the Terms and Conditions first! Applications close 11:59pm (AEST), Sunday 5 July 2020.

Q: Will I get feedback on my application?

A: Only winners will be notified directly. Unfortunately, the scope and diversity of applications means that it’s not practical or fair for the judging panel to provide feedback on individual applications. The application form will guide you through how to best answer questions relevant to your application.
